Women in Marketing: #1. Janet Machuka

Janet Machuka is a household name in the world of Digital Marketing. With about four years of experience in the field, she has grown to be a digital marketing strategist, influencer and a consultant.

Her rise to the top started quite accidentally when she was confused for another person named Machuka too. Deciding not to let the negative energy of the internet take her down, Janet chose to exude light by bringing people together to use the digital marketing space within and outside Kenya.

Utilizing the No Boundaries advantage in the digital space, Machuka started by trying to understand digital marketing which increased her connectivity to people as she marketed brands on social media as an influencer.

She strongly believes school is simply an avenue to open one up to greater opportunities. Having a media background as her degree, Janet agrees it aids her navigate her career in social media. It is the passion and desire to propel young people, brands and start-ups to be pioneers in their different spheres however, that makes it easy. This, she does by creating communities for marketing. To achieve this, Janet works with teams as she is a strong believer that no one makes it on their own.

Janet has been featured on renown platforms such as Talkwalker, Social Pilot and Hubspot as a trendsetter in the field. She has also been recognized in Kenya as Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers to follow. Being an authority, she has been invited to various forums to talk about digital marketing.

Beholden to the power of people and togetherness, Janet founded Africa Tweet Chat in February 2018 which to date has had over 250 million engagement across the continent and beyond. She attributes her success to the connections she has managed to make over the years as well as the referrals from her clients.

Machuka’s strategy in her journey has been to focus on creating platforms where learning and communication happens. The concept of operating together as one to grow Africa led to the founding of ATC Academy.

Continuing with the framework of community and relationship building, trainings are set to run online for ATC Academy due to recent developments restricting physical interactions. The trainings teach those interested in digital marketing to use social media to leverage their online spaces fully. Knowledge after all, is power.

Her closing statement, “It is not about how smart or presentable you are, it is about what you feed others. What are your limits? Remember to stay within the values that guide you while doing so.”
